About

The Scientific Indian is a collection of speculative fiction, essays, narrative nonfiction, and original works that may not fall into neat categories. All of these are selected, edited and published by Selva, with frequent counsel from people vastly more learned and smarter than him. Published content have been selected for their quality, science, humor and coolness [1].

As the license terms at the foot of this page indicates, you can freely distribute the stories and essays in various ways under the Creative Commons Deed.

Culture of sharing
The culture of sharing is natural for us and needs no justification, except when it is lacking. It is worth noting a fascinating historical precedent for free distribution within asian civilizations. In the chinese translation of Kumarajiva's 'Diamond Sutra', published about one thousand years ago, the motivational phrase 'for universal free distribution' is printed. It is the first dated printed bookThe Argumentative Indian by Amartya Sen, Chapter 8 - China and India and it thrills me to no end to know that the value of sharing was appreciated so long ago by the two ancient cultures. A more recent manifestation of universal free distribution, as you may well know, is the Creative Commons [2] movement started by Professor Lawrence Lessig. This website found inspiration in the Creative Commons movement during its inception.

About Selva
This website was conceived and delivered by Selva. He lives with his wife Ramya and daughter Nidhi Nova (curious about the name? [3]) in Amersham, a town near London. By the sheer arbitrariness of existence he was born in Namakkal, a town in Tamilnadu (South India), during the year when the first Indian satellite Aryabhatta went into space. You can reach him through his email selvakumar at gmail.com or using the contact form at this site. His blog [4], originally hosted here, was moved to Scienceblogs.com [5] in 2006.
